Welcome Parents,

Thank you for visiting the Louisiana Striving Readers Project Web site! We hope you find the information we have provided helpful. The project involves a partnership between the Louisiana Department of Education, SEDL and Cambium Learning Group/Voyager.

SEDL is leading the program evaluation of Voyager's Passport Reading Journeys (PRJ), which has been introduced to a portion of 6th and 7th grade students at 10 schools, across 4 Parishes in Louisiana (See our schools page for more information). We have been working with school and district staff to ensure students selected to be in PRJ classrooms are enrolled. We are currently working to collect the first round of student test data.

If your student's school has agreed to participate in the three-year study to see how the PRJ program effects students and your student is reading below grade level, he/she may be enrolled in the PRJ class. All students reading below grade level will have the same chance of being enrolled in the program since selection is based on a lottery-like process. If your student is not selected to participate in the PRJ program, he/she has been enrolled in another elective course offered by the school.

In order to evaluate the program, students will complete a group reading test, as well as a brief survey, twice a year. The reading test and survey will be given to both groups of students, those enrolled in PRJ classes and those in other electives. The reading tests and surveys will be compared across groups to determine if PRJ improves students' reading ability or not.

If you have any questions about the evaluation or the project, please contact a member of the study team.
